Qatar Airways has been FIFA's airline partner since 2017. AA is now the Official North American Supplier for World Cup 2026. Here's the scoop.

I recently spotted something new when boarding an E175 at Laguardia. Below the AA centennial decal, there was another for the FIFA World Cup 26. Along with FIFA branding, it was accompanied by American and Qatar Airways logos. This got me curious, so I did some digging.

    The Sponsorship

Qatar Airways has been FIFA's Official Global Airline Partner since 2017, a deal that runs through 2030. As the 2026 World Cup approaches - the first to be hosted across three countries (the US, Canada, and Mexico) - American Airlines got in on the action.

AA announced last year that it's the Official North American Airline Supplier of FIFA World Cup 26, working alongside Qatar Airways. The logic is straightforward: Qatar handles the international stuff, while AA handles domestic connectivity across the 16 host cities. As oneworld alliance partners, the coordination is already there. That said it remains to see how the war in Iran impacts Qatar's ability to bring soccer fans to the states.

    The Decals

The decals started rolling out across AA's domestic fleet late last year and now appear on all 1,550+ aircraft in the fleet - which means pretty much every AA plane you board between now and the final at MetLife Stadium on July 19 is carrying one. There's also a single specially painted Boeing 737-800 with a full sports-themed livery that entered service on February 15, though that one you'd have to be lucky to catch.

For AAdvantage members, the practical angle is that miles are redeemable for match tickets across all 104 games. Access opened in tiers based on status - ExPlat and ConciergeKey first, then Platinum tiers, then all members - and there's a final opportunity window running now through May 1, with flyaway sweepstakes for the opening match in Mexico City and a USMNT match in Los Angeles also currently open at fwc26perks.com.

The World Cup kicks off June 11. Dallas, home to AA's headquarters, is one of the host cities. Between this and AA's centennial year, it should be a very exciting summer for American.
