Delta Boarding Zones Explained 2026: All 8
Delta boards by numbered zones 1–8. Here's the full order — Delta One, Diamond, Comfort+, credit cards, and Basic Economy — and how to board earlier on Delta.
Delta uses eight numbered boarding zones plus a pre-boarding group. Here's the complete order, who lands where, and how to move up if you want to board earlier.
Delta switched from named boarding categories — Sky Priority, Delta One, Diamond Medallion - to a numbered zone system in 2024. The underlying order didn't change much, but the number system makes it easier to follow at the gate, hear in announcements, and is less confusing for less frequent flyers.
Here's the full breakdown.
Delta's Boarding Order
| Group | Who Boards |
|---|---|
| Pre-boarding | Customers needing extra time or assistance, active US military, Delta 360° members |
| Zone 1 | Delta One and First Class passengers |
| Zone 2 | Diamond Medallion members, Delta Premium Select passengers |
| Early Access | Customers traveling with strollers or car seats |
| Zone 3 | Platinum Medallion members, Delta Comfort+ passengers |
| Zone 4 | Gold Medallion members, Sky Priority customers |
| Zone 5 | Silver Medallion members, Delta SkyMiles Amex cardholders |
| Zone 6 | Main Cabin — SkyMiles members |
| Zone 7 | Main Cabin — non-SkyMiles members |
| Zone 8 | Basic Economy |
A few things worth calling out.
Delta 360° boards before Zone 1. Delta's invite-only status tier above Diamond goes in the pre-boarding group.
Comfort+ gets its own zone. Zone 3 covers both Platinum Medallion members and Comfort+ passengers. If you've paid for a Comfort+ seat without any elite status, you're boarding ahead of Gold Medallion members in Zone 4.
Early Access sits between Zone 2 and Zone 3. Customers with strollers or car seats get a dedicated window between the Zone 2 and Zone 3 boarding groups. You need to identify yourself to the gate agent in order to take advantage of this.
Silver and credit card holders share Zone 5. A Delta co-branded Amex card with any annual fee gets you to Zone 5 - the same position as Silver Medallion. The credit card is the most straightforward way to board ahead of general Main Cabin passengers without any status requirement.
Zone 8 is Basic Economy. As with most airlines, BE is the last to board. If overhead bins are full, Basic Economy passengers are expected to check bags at the gate.
The Sky Priority Lane
Zones 1 through 4 are collectively eligible to use the Sky Priority boarding lane at the gate.

How Delta Compares to Other Carriers
We've covered boarding groups across the major US carriers - American runs nine groups, JetBlue eight, United six. Delta's system is notable for a couple of reasons. First, Comfort+ passengers boarding in Zone 3 means you can board early just by upgrading your seat regardless of status. Second, Delta doesn't sell priority boarding as a standalone add-on unlike American and a few other airlines. Your boarding position is determined by fare class, status, or credit card. That's it.
How to Board Earlier Without Status
Any fee-bearing Delta SkyMiles Amex — the Gold, Platinum, or Reserve — gets you into Zone 5 boarding. That's ahead of general Main Cabin and far enough up to have overhead bin space on most flights. If you're looking to board early without status, this is one of the easiest options.
If you're booking Comfort+ anyway for the extra legroom, Zone 3 boarding is included regardless of status.
For a one-off flight where neither applies, there isn't a paid priority boarding option on Delta.
