The math: a single Mexico or Caribbean flight segment on a business travel ticket could earn 1,000 + 1,000 + 500 = 2,500 bonus LP in one hop. Two such segments maxes out the 5,000 cap.
Why This Matters at the Start of the Qualification Year
The AAdvantage qualification year runs March 1 through February 28. Getting LP on the board early has a compounding effect — the sooner you unlock the 100,000 LP milestone bonus, the more efficient every hotel night and shopping portal purchase becomes for the rest of the year.
5,000 bonus LP won't get you to any status tier on its own, but as a stack on top of normal flight earning at the very start of the year, it's a genuinely useful head start. The full LP thresholds for each status tier are in the AAdvantage status guide.
Eligible Mexico and Caribbean Airports
The 1,000 LP bonus applies to segments departing from or arriving to any of the following airports:
Mexico: Acapulco (ACA), Cancun (CUN), Cozumel (CZM), Huatulco (HUX), Loreto (LTO), Los Cabos (SJD), Manzanillo (ZLO), Mazatlan (MZT), Puerto Escondido (PXM), Tulum (TQO), Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa (ZIH)
Caribbean: Antigua (ANU), Anguilla (AXA), Aruba (AUA), Barbados (BGI), Bermuda (BDA), Bimini (BIM), Bonaire (BON), British Virgin Islands (EIS), Cayman Islands (GCM), Curacao (CUR), Dominica (DOM), Grenada (GND), Guadeloupe (PTP), Jamaica — Montego Bay (MBJ) and Ocho Rios (OCJ), Martinique (FDF), St. Kitts (SKB), St. Lucia (UVF), St. Maarten (SXM), St. Vincent (SVD), Turks and Caicos — Providenciales (PLS) and South Caicos (XSC)
Bahamas: Nassau (NAS), Freeport (FPO), Bimini (BIM), Eleuthera (ELH), Exuma (GGT), Governor's Harbour (GHB), Marsh Harbour (MHH)
