Alaska's New Portland Lounge Opened on June 4, 2026
Alaska Airlines opened its new 14,000 sq ft PDX lounge today. Here's what's inside, who can access it, and what's coming next in Alaska's lounge expansion.
Alaska Airlines opened its new Portland lounge this week after more than two years of construction. The 14,000-square-foot space is twice the size of the previous Portland Lounge and features more than 230 seats.
What the Lounge Looks Like
Like much of Alaska's design language, the new space leans into the Pacific Northwest aesthetic. It features fireplaces, high open ceilings, plenty of natural lightl, and a striking wooden Mt. Hood mural.
Food and drink features regionally inspired food, beverages, and cocktails from West Coast providers. The regional identity is strong in this lounge.

Who Can Get In
Access is open to Alaska Lounge members, Alaska Lounge+ members, eligible First Class guests, and eligible oneworld and partner airline passengers. Just note that if you're a status holder on say American Airlines, you'll not be eligible for the lounge on domestic flights.
Alaska is particularly generous with lounge access, allowing for complimentary access for paid first class passengers on flights of over 2,000 miles. One key distinction is that this excludes those who gained access via award tickets or an upgrade.
Why Portland, Why Now
Alaska Airlines is by far the largest carrier at Portland, running more than 100 daily departures. The old lounge was sized for a smaller operation and hadn't kept up with the rapid growth at PDX. Frequent complaints included a lack of space and seating, something that has become more common with airline lounges. This new space is sized for what Portland has become - one of Alaska's key hubs.
Alaska nearly $18 million investment into the space and clearly reflects how seriously they're treating the Portland market.

What's Next
Portland is the first piece of a broader lounge expansion. Alaska just announced plans for a huge 41,000-square-foot lounge in Seattle with a planned opening in 2027. That would make it one of the largest in North America. Additionally, a new lounge in San Diego and a Honolulu lounge expansion are also slated over the next few years.
The Broader Context
Alaska's lounge network has historically been one of the airline's strengths. In most cases they offer an elevated experience compared to some of the more chaotic airline clubs at major hubs. The Portland opening and what's coming next show just how serious Alaska is taking their lounge product.
If you're flying through PDX if the coming weeks, the new Alaska lounge seems well worth the detour. I'm excited at the idea of exploring more of Alaska's network, particularly in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. A stop at the new Portland lounge will hopefully be in the cards!
