The seven resources every AAdvantage member should bookmark — FlyerTalk, Seats.aero, aeroLOPA, the oneworld airport guide, MilesMate calculators, and more.

Seven tools and communities worth bookmarking — for award searches, status planning, lounge intel, and everything in between.

The AAdvantage program has enough moving parts that knowing where to look for information is half the battle. Award availability changes daily, status thresholds shift annually, and partner benefits vary by airport in ways that aren't always obvious until you're standing at a lounge desk getting turned away.

These are the seven resources I actually use and recommend.

    1. FlyerTalk's AAdvantage Forum

Best for: Data points, data points, data points.

FlyerTalk's AAdvantage forum is one of the longest-running and most active airline communities on the internet. The real value isn't the opinions — it's the volume of firsthand reports from members who've just experienced something: upgrade cleared on X route, new lounge policy at Y airport, change fee waived under Z circumstances. When you need to know what's actually happening on the ground right now, a FlyerTalk thread search is often the fastest way to find out.

A few specific threads worth bookmarking: the seating threads for individual aircraft types are invaluable for knowing which rows to target and which to avoid before you even open the seat map. The dining threads are equally useful — members regularly post photos and firsthand feedback on AA cabin meals beyond what the official pre-order descriptions tell you. Both are exactly the kind of intel that makes a difference on a long-haul flight.

    2. Seats.aero

Best for: Searching partner award availability across a wide date range.

Seats.aero doesn't search AA's own award inventory in real time — for that, aa.com is still your starting point. Where it excels is partner award availability: Qatar Qsuites, JAL business and first class, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, and more. The ability to search an entire year of availability at once, rather than day-by-day, is what separates it from everything else. If you're hunting for a specific partner redemption with flexible dates, this is the fastest way to find a window that actually has space.

One caveat worth knowing: availability shown on Seats.aero is refreshed several times daily but isn't strictly real-time. Always verify on the booking program's own site before transferring points.

    3. aeroLOPA

Best for: Knowing exactly what seat you're getting before you book.

aeroLOPA is a seat map database that goes deeper than SeatGuru. It maps individual aircraft configurations — not just the generic layout, but specific registration variants — with photos and dimensions for individual seats. If you're trying to figure out whether a specific Qsuites configuration has the newer or older cabin, or which rows on a particular 787 variant have the best window-to-seat ratio, aeroLOPA is the place to check.

Particularly useful when you're deciding between seat options at booking — knowing the exact dimensions, proximity to the galley or lavatory, and whether a window seat actually lines up with a window on that specific aircraft variant is information that generic seat maps don't give you.

    4. MilesMate AAdvantage Calculators

Best for: Planning status and deciding whether miles or cash makes more sense on a specific flight.

The AAdvantage Loyalty Points Calculator at MilesMate models your LP earning across AA and partner flights to project where you'll land in the qualification year — useful both for setting a realistic status target and for identifying the gap that needs closing later in the year. The AAdvantage Miles vs. Cash calculator runs the valuation math on a specific redemption, so you're not making a gut-feel decision about whether to burn miles or pay cash.

Neither of these exist anywhere else in quite the same form, and they're free.

    5. BoardingArea

Best for: Staying across the points and miles media landscape without following twenty separate blogs.

BoardingArea is a publishing network that aggregates the better independent travel blogs in one place — One Mile at a Time, View from the Wing, The Gate, and others. If you want to stay current on AAdvantage news, program changes, and award strategy without building a custom RSS feed, it's a reasonable one-stop hub. The breadth of coverage means major program developments tend to surface quickly.

    6. oneworld Member Benefits by Airport

Best for: Knowing exactly what you're entitled to at a specific airport before you arrive.

The oneworld airport guide is underused and genuinely excellent. Search by airport and it shows you every lounge, check-in counter, and Fast Track security lane available to oneworld status members — broken down by tier. No login required, no guesswork. This is the authoritative source — not a blog post, not a forum thread. When I was planning lounge access at Narita and Haneda, this was the first thing I checked.

Bookmark it and look it up before every international departure on a oneworld carrier. The answer occasionally surprises you in both directions.

    7. aa.com Award Calendar View

Best for: Spotting open award dates at a glance without clicking day by day.

AA's own search tool has a feature that doesn't get enough attention: the calendar view for award searches. Rather than hunting through dates one at a time, it surfaces an entire month of availability at once — letting you quickly identify which windows have saver-level space on the routes you're searching. For flexible-date award planning on AA metal or partner space, this is significantly faster than the default search flow.

    AA.com Award Calendar View

Worth knowing: for partner award space on airlines like JAL or Cathay, aa.com sometimes surfaces availability that third-party tools miss or lag on. Always cross-reference with Seats.aero, but don't skip aa.com's own search — it occasionally has the edge on partner inventory.
